Plainville DECA Chapter Excels at State Conference

On March 10, 2009, 47 Plainville High School DECA students competed against over 1,000 state-wide members at the State Career Development Conference held at the Aqua Turf in Southington, Connecticut. Plainville's DECA students competed in a variety of marketing events, consisting of individual and team decision-making components as well as a number of marketing research projects.
"The conference was a tremendous learning experience for DECA members to interact and network in a real business and marketing environment," said students Patrycja Jacewicz and Natalia Konieczkowski.

The Plainville High School DECA Chapter had seven state winners at the conference. Patrycja Jacewicz and Natalia Konieczkowski placed first in the Retail Marketing written team event. Samuel Dostaler and Taylor Perun also placed first in the Sports & Entertainment team decision-making event. In addition, John Kunda and Stephen Underwood placed third in the Financial Analysis team event as well as Elizabeth Moriarty in the Accounting application series event. All of these students, who are seniors at Plainville High School, have qualified to compete at the national level later this spring from April 28 - May 3, 2009. Plainville DECA is proud to have had a past national winner in the Creative Marketing research event during the 2000 national convention held in Louisville, Kentucky. Steven Slomski is the Plainville High School DECA Advisor. "The high school community is very proud of the efforts of all 47 students who attended and participated in state-wide testing against some of the finest marketing students in Connecticut," said Slomski.

"Our DECA program is a source of pride for Plainville High School. You can always count on our students to represent PHS in a professional, prepared manner. We wish them well at their national convention," said Plainville High School Principal Greg Ziogas.
