District Recognized for Excellence in Leadership and Communication
The Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) has recently selected the Plainville Board of Education as one of 17 Connecticut school boards to receive the Board of Education Leadership Award this year.The Plainville school district has also been selected to receive four awards as part of CABE's Excellence in Educational Communications awards program.
The Board of Education Leadership Award is presented to school districts in Connecticut that meet a comprehensive set of criteria in the following categories: community relations, board operations, policy, board member professional development, and related organizational leadership. According to CABE, the Board of Education Leadership Award is designed to recognize boards which work effectively as teams. This is the third consecutive year that the Plainville Board of Education has received the prestigious CABE Board Leadership Award. "It is certainly a great honor to receive the Leadership Award for the 3rd consecutive year. This award reflects the work of the Board, particularly in the areas of long-range planning and understanding the role that local Boards of Education play at the state and federal level," said Plainville Board of Education Chair Becky Tyrrell. The Board of Education Leadership Award will be presented during the CABE Leadership Awards Reception on November 14.
Plainville Community Schools is also the recipient of four CABE Excellence in Educational Communications Awards. In recognition of the good work that is being done on a daily basis, CABE established the Awards of Excellence for Educational Communications in 1975. This year, Plainville Community Schools' awards include: Newsletter Category: First Place - Community Letter newsletter, Course Selection Guide Category: Honorable Mention - Adult and Continuing Education Brochure, Website Category: Honorable Mention - Plainville Community Schools' website, and Parent / Student Handbook Category: Honorable Mention - Linden Street School Calendar / Handbook. The communication awards will be presented by CABE later this year.
"We have much to be proud of with the leadership of the Board and our extensive achievements. Congratulations to all of the staff members for their work on behalf of our students," stated Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kathleen Binkowski.
