Students Share Leadership Conference Experience with Rotary Club of Plainville
Plainville High School students Brandy Guarda, Patrick Haggerty, and Dan Zuckerman recently attended a Rotary Club of Plainville meeting to share their experiences gained at the Rotary Club Youth Leadership Association conference held last June at Springfield College in Massachusetts. More than 200 students from Connecticut and Massachusetts attended the youth leadership event. The Rotary Club of Plainville sponsored the students from Plainville who attended the conference. The day long event featured a guest speaker and team building activities that focused on developing leadership skills.
"We got to step out of our comfort zone to meet other students and work collaboratively on a number of activities throughout the day. I learned a lot about myself – it was a wonderful experience," said Guarda. "I learned to trust others," explained Haggerty. "In our groups, it wasn’t just one leader giving direction, rather, it was all eight of us working together to build trust through our collective leadership – it was a very productive experience." "We got to meet many new people while we learned about leadership and team work," added Zuckerman. "We are grateful for the support of our local Rotary Club, who provided the opportunity for us to attend the conference."
"This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn about leadership and their ability to become leaders in a diverse world. We are very proud of all three of these young people and are looking forward to their contributions to the school," commented Plainville High School Principal Greg Ziogas.
