Plainville DECA Chapter Excels at State Conference
The Plainville High School DECA Chapter earned a number of awards at the Connecticut State Career Development Conference held in March. Thirty seven DECA chapters participated in the day long conference competition which included completion of a case study and assessment. The annual conference focuses on preparing high school juniors and seniors for careers in the marketing, merchandising, and management.
Competition winners from Plainville are: Eric Luke and Taylor Perun – 1st Place, Sports & Entertainment Marketing, Elizabeth Sisson and Sarah Tanner – 2nd Place, Buying & Pricing Team Decision Making Event, Leighann Astolfi and Jessica Jahr – 2nd Place, Internet Team Decision Making Event, Matthew Wilde and Alana Mullin – 2nd Place, Financial Analysis Team Decision Making, Patricia Jacewicz and Natalia Konieczkowski – 3rd Place, Hospitality & Recreation Marketing Team Event, Christina Cavallaro – 4th Place, Food Marketing, and Michelle Spinelli – 4th Place, Hotel & Lodging Marketing.
Plainville DECA Chapter students who participated in the competition unanimously endorsed the experience as a positive one. "It was a fun and enriching experience," said Matthew Wilde, who joined Alana Mullin in the Financial Analysis Team Decision Making event. "I have partnered with Matt in the financial event since sophomore year. I am planning for a career in finance, so it has been a great experience to participate in this event," commented Mullin. "Through the competition we are able to network and meet students from many other high schools," added Liz Sisson.
"The conference is a wonderful opportunity for our students to test their marketing skills outside the classroom," commented Steve Slomski, Plainville High School faculty member and DECA Chapter Advisor.
