Dr. Beth Larkins-Strathy Named Middle School of Plainville Assistant Principal

Dr. Beth Larkins-Strathy, currently a teacher in the Pomperaug Region 15 school system serving Middlebury and Southbury, Connecticut, has been named Assistant Principal of the Middle School of Plainville. Larkins-Strathy will fill a vacancy left by former Middle School Assistant Principal Matthew Guarino, who was named Middle School Principal in October, 2007.

Larkins-Strathy has held a number of positions in the field of education. She began her career as a grade six teacher at Brooklyn Junior High School in Brooklyn, Connecticut and moved to the Region 15 school district, where she has held several positions at the Rochambeau Middle School including sixth grade Language Arts and Social Studies teacher, seventh and eighth grade English teacher, Lead Teacher, and Interim Assistant Principal. In addition, she currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at Quinnipiac University. She holds both bachelor of science and master of science degrees from Eastern Connecticut State University, and earned a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Hartford.

Larkins-Strathy was named the candidate of choice at a special Board of Education meeting held on March 12th. An Assistant Principal Search Committee, comprised of school district administrators, Plainville Board of Education members, faculty, staff, and parents conducted the search.

"Beth Larkins-Strathy brings a wealth of knowledge about the art of teaching to our district. The Board believes she will be a great addition -- not just to the Middle School, but to the entire Plainville School system," said Plainville Board of Education Chairperson Becky Tyrrell.

It is anticipated that Larkins-Strathy will assume the Assistant Principal position at the Middle School of Plainville in April.

"Dr. Beth Larkins-Strathy is a talented educator who will enhance our administrative team as we continue our goal to raise student achievement levels in the Middle School," stated Dr. Kathleen Binkowski, Superintendent of Schools.
