Sixteen Middle School of Plainville students have qualified to participate in the Northern Region Music Festival Chorus sponsored by the Connecticut Music Educatorís Association, according to Middle School Music Instructor Todd Helming. Earlier this year, 35 middle school students from Plainville auditioned for the program, together with 1,000 middle school students from around the state. The sixteen students who qualified for participation in the chorus are:Katie McLellan, Briana Zink, Alyssa Nelson, Marissa Schilling, Janelle Theriault, Josh Hausman, Forrest Zirpolo, Eddie Lee, Paul Martin, Brett Cote, Dequan Hurey,Tom Dinda, Marcquille Johnson, Kenny Prigodich, Piotr Maslak, and Jeremy Mercier.
"This is a record number of students to qualify from the Middle School of Plainville," explained Helming. "MSP has over 300 students in the chorus which is approximately 50% of our student population. There is a great deal of enthusiasm for singing that has lead to this tremendous growth."
The students will participate in a special regional concert at the Har-Bur Middle School in Burlington on March 1st.
"We are extremely proud of the middle school students who have qualified to participate in the Northern Region Music Festival Chorus. This significant accomplishment showcases their talents and reflects the exceptional quality of our music program led by our outstanding faculty," commented Binkowski.
