Carmelich Named Business Manager for Plainville Community Schools
Richard E. Carmelich III, Director of Finance for the Oxford, Connecticut school system, has been named Business Manager for the Plainville Community Schools. Carmelich will replace current Board of Education Business Manager Alan Schutz, who is slated to retire later this year.
Carmelich has held several positions in the government financial sector, including senior government finance analyst and government finance manager for the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities. In his current role as Director of Finance for Oxford Public Schools, he is responsible for the Board of Education budget, serves as the Facilities Director, and oversees the transportation and food services functions. He has held the position of Director of Finance since 2004. Carmelich earned a bachelor of arts degree from Dickinson College and a master of public administration degree from the University of Georgia. In addition, he is certified as a State of Connecticut School Business Administrator.
Carmelich was named the candidate of choice at a special Board of Education meeting held on January 7th. A Business Manager Search Committee, comprised of district administrators, board members and staff members conducted the search.
"Mr. Carmelich is an exceptional candidate who can provide leadership in bringing the district operational functions to the next level. He has the knowledge to assist us in developing strategies to combine resources with the town," stated Dr. Kathleen Binkowski, Superintendent of Schools.
It is anticipated that Carmelich will begin as Business Manager for Plainville Community Schools in February.
