Guarino Named Principal at the Middle School of Plainville

The Plainville Board of Education has named Matthew Guarino as Principal of the Middle School of Plainville. Board members voted unanimously to appoint Guarino at a special meeting held October 16th. "Matt Guarino has proven himself to be a capable administrator who is dedicated to the Plainville community. The Board of Education is confident that the Middle School will thrive under his leadership," said Becky Tyrrell, Chairperson of the Plainville Board of Education.

The process of selecting the Principal of the Middle School began this past summer with a number of community forums. The forums were designed to gather information from the school and greater community about the qualities expected in a principal. The qualities that emerged centered around a visible, collaborative leader who communicates well and is focused on reaching higher levels of student achievement. The process included a screening team comprised of representatives from the school district and the community. The screening team selected two final candidates from a field of 27 to move forward in the process.

Guarino, a long time Plainville resident, has more than 20 years of experience as an educator in Connecticut, and has served as a special education facilitator, special education teacher, head teacher, and most recently as the Middle School Assistant Principal, in the Plainville school system. He holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Connecticut and a master of science degree from Central Connecticut State University. He recently completed a sixth year program in school administration at the University of Connecticut.

"Matt has made many positive contributions to our school district over the years. He is an exceptional educator who has consistently demonstrated his leadership ability as Assistant Principal, and is ready to assume this primary leadership role as Principal," noted Dr. Kathleen Binkowski, Superintendent of Schools.

"The mission of the Middle School of Plainville is "Inspiring and challenging a respectful and responsible community of learners," and I am thrilled to be given the tremendous honor and responsibility of leading the school on that mission. I am fortunate to have a fantastic staff and administrative colleagues, a wonderful community in which to work, and, of course, the world's greatest children," stated Guarino.
