Guarino is Finalist for Assistant Principal Position at MSP
Plainville Community Schools is pleased to announce that Matthew Guarino has been selected as the finalist for the assistant principal position at the Middle School of Plainville.
Guarino, a long time Plainville resident, has more than 20 years of experience as an educator. He began his career as a special education teacher with the Capital Regional Education Council (CREC), and subsequently transferred to the former Plainville Junior High School in 1982, where he served as both a special education facilitator and special education teacher until 1990. Guarino then held positions in the field of special education at Central Connecticut State University including instructor, adjunct lecturer, and acting coordinator of student teaching. Guarino taught students with special needs in West Hartford before returning to Plainville in 1997. He is currently employed as a special education teacher at Wheeler Elementary School, and has held a leadership position as head teacher at Wheeler since 2001. Guarino served as a member of the Principals’ Advisory, district Special Education Supervisor’s Advisory, Math and Social Studies Curriculum, School Discipline and School Safety Committees, and liaison to the Wheeler Parent Teacher Organization.
Guarino holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Connecticut and a master of science degree from Central Connecticut State University. He recently completed a sixth year program in school administration at the University of Connecticut.
Plainville Community Schools will hold a ‘meet the candidate’ session with Matt Guarino in the Middle School of Plainville Library on Monday, July 17, 2006, from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. All community members are welcome to attend. The Board of Education will meet in Executive Session to interview Guarino on July 19th.
