Student Resources

The resources below provide both background and resources for students as they complete lessons and projects.

World War II Commemoration

World War II ended on September 2, 1945 with the formal surrender of Japan aboard the U.S. battleship Missouri in Tokyo Bay. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the war, we have put together what we believe to be the definitive collection of World War II historical materials on the Web.

World War II The Homefront ThinkQuest

This simulation will follow the lives of five families during the school year of September 1943-June 1944. This specific time period was chosen because the war was in full swing, yet it was not yet clear what way it would go. This simulation uses American families and deals with the American home front of World War II.

Mankato Memories

This web site was created by eighth grade students at the Dakota Meadows Middle School and is dedicated to recording oral histories about the World War II years. Students interviewed people living in the Mankato, Minnesota, area.

Private Art

A Collection of WW II Letters To and From The Home Front.

A People at War

This exhibit highlights the contributions of the thousands of Americans, both military and civilian, who served their country during World War II. Documents from the National Archives and Records Administration's (NARA) National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis form the core of the exhibit. For those who lived through the Second World War, this exhibit may help them recall their experiences. For those who did not, it is hoped they will gain a deeper understanding of the sacrifice and commitment of those Americans who, after almost 4 years, were "A People at War."
