KEYNOTE HELP SHEET

 

PROCESS

  1. Review the WebQuest online with your teacher and review the assessment rubric.
  2. Begin research with LIT.
  3. Continue research and synthesize information from classroom notes into your graphic organizer.
  4. Begin creating a 7 slide keynote presentation with the following components:
    • Slide 1- Title page with name of colony, your name, date, teacher’s name
    • Slide 2- Bulleted list of information that answers your ENVIRONMENT essential questions What were the natural resources in your community? How did they impact the ways people made their living in your colonial community What were the geographical features of your colony?
    • Slide 3- Bulleted list of information that answers your SETTLERS essential questions What were some of the reasons you or your fellow settlers had for leaving your country of origin?
    • Slide 4- Bulleted list of information that answers your GOVERNMENT essential questions What value systems and beliefs were important to leaders in this colony? How did native and immigrant cultures come together? What were the major conflicts? Why or how did native and immigrant cultures cooperate?
    • Slide 5- Bulleted list of information that answers your ECONOMICS essential questions What were the prominent industries (imports, exports, cash crops) and/or trades in your colony? Why were these industries or trades successful in your colony?
    • Slide 6- Add a text box to a titles only slide. In the text box, write a letter home to family in Europe as if you were a colonist. Include details about your trade and what you do, how your work is important to the economics of the colonial community, and any affect the environment or government has on your trade and daily life. Make sure your letter answers the essential questions: How does your geographic location influence your lifestyle and interaction with others? How were members of the community and communities that you traded with interdependent?
    • Slide 7- Works Cited slide Within your presentation, add at least 3 relevant pictures, including a map of the geography of your colony.
  5. Edit your keynote for grammar, usage, spelling, punctuation and capitalization. Make sure your work is organized and easily read by your audience.
  6. When your keynote is complete, print out a handout page for your keynote and write a script of what you will say as you present the bullet points on your slides. This is where you will need to give complete, TTQA responses to the essential questions.
  7. Practice your presentation with a partner and assess yourself using the task assessment rubric. Work with your partner make any final peer edits or suggestions before you present.
  8. Present to the class on your final presentation day.
  9. Using the rubrics for your presentation script and your final keynote, evaluate yourself and reflect on your learning. Hand that in for your final grade.
