1. Connecticut’s environment provided flat land for farming, rivers for irrigation and woodlands for building materials. The climate was suitable for growing crops and raising livestock.

4. The settlers were seeking ownership of land and religious freedom, so they moved and established settlements in Connecticut, at the expense of the Native Americans.

5a. The Europeans adopted the name Connecticut from the Native American word  “Quinatucquet,” which means “beside the long river.”5b. Famous people of Connecticut contributed to its culture through inventions and accomplishments (literature, governmental, talents and heroic actions) including Adrien Block, Thomas Hooker, current governor, Nathan Hale and Prudence Crandall.6. Connecticut’s government began with the Fundamental Orders and is now comprised of three branches: legislative, executive and judicial. The state’s government is headquartered in Hartford.7. Connecticut was inhabited by settlers and the Native American culture became lost.8. Students will be able to identify the following on a map:
