| Objectives: Native Americans (Critical Content listed, not objectives) |
The student will know . . . 1.) All people need food, clothing, shelter, transportation, and water. 2.) Shelter - saplings, plant material, sinew 3.) Purpose of legends is to teach or transmit religious beliefs, teach moral values and transmit traditions. 4.) Religious beliefs were a reverence of nature verses ownership of nature.- Native Americans used natural resources wisely and did not waste. Example: They thanked the animal when killing it. 5.) Europeans learned farming and hunting techniques and about new food sources from Native Americans. They adopted many Native American words. 6.) There was a great interdependency of all work being shared. Outcomes of doing or not doing your job affected survival of the entire village. Roles of men- hunting, fishing, security, tool making, leadership. Women - farming, clothing, cooking. Children - farming, assist and learn from adults. Shared tasks building shelter, leadership, provide childcare and teaching. 7.) Contact with Europeans changed the environment and how they used it, reduced their numbers through wars and disease. Native Americans changed their culture as they merged with the European traditions. |
